City of Seattle Form of Government
Seattle has a Mayor/Council form of government. The mayor and 9 city council members are independently elected. The City Attorney and Municipal Judges are also independently elected. Up until the 2013 election, all 9 city council members were elected at large. With the passage of Charter Amendment 19 in the November 2013 vote, that will change beginning with the 2015 election.
District Elections
With the passage of Charter Amendment 19, after the November 2015 elections, 7 City Council Members will be elected by districts and 2 members will be elected at large.
Office of the Mayor
The Mayor is the Chief Executive of the city. All departments except the City Council, City Attorney, and Municipal Court come under the Mayor's office.
